A name worth keeping.

The cheapest domain names make sense beyond the first payment. Find a name that is easy to use, then compare three years of your own quotes.

Illustrative name, no availability check

Say it. Spell it. Picture it on an email address.

Illustrative cost over three years

£32

£8 registration + two £12 renewals.
Including VAT. Example only.

Give your shortlist
a proper look.

A low price cannot tell you whether a name is easy to say, fits your project or costs more to renew. Check both the name and the numbers.

This tool does not check domain availability, trade marks or live prices. Nothing you enter is sent or saved.

Compare up to three names. All amounts in GBP.

Your three-year view

Includes the upfront domain charge, renewals needed to reach three years, and the extras you enter. Totals include VAT on the basis you choose. Blank optional extras count as £0.

Add a name to start your comparison.

An estimate, not a guaranteed future price. We hold your annual renewal and extras quotes constant. Confirm the exact name, eligibility, minimum term, compulsory fees and final basket total with the registrar. “Add 20%” is the UK standard-rate VAT assumption for this calculation; use VAT-inclusive quotes if that basis does not apply.

Choose the ending.
Then check the price.

An extension is part of the name, not just the cheapest line in a price list. Start with your audience and purpose. Compare the exact name and ending together.

.co.uk

A familiar choice for UK businesses. Say the full ending when testing the name with someone.

.uk

A shorter UK ending for businesses and individuals. It is a separate registration from .co.uk; buying one does not reserve the other.

.com

Worth considering for a broader audience. Compare its own registration and renewal quote rather than assuming it costs the same as a UK ending.

Other endings

Choose for meaning as well as price. .org.uk is intended for causes and not-for-profit organisations; .me.uk generally requires an individual registrant. Check the rules of any ending before buying.

The name has
to work out loud.

Tell someone the name once, without spelling it. Ask them to type it. Then read the joined words on screen and as an email address.

Hyphens and numbers can be usable, but may need an explanation. “Four” and “4” are different addresses. Try the name in a short sentence before making it your business identity.

A truthful place or service word can give you more ideas. Each extra variant you register creates another renewal commitment; you do not need to buy every possibility.

What about year three?

Read the whole offer

Check whether the deal is limited to a new customer, a first order or a particular term. If you must buy three years upfront, enter that full domain charge and choose “3 years” in the tool. Do not enter just the advertised first-year figure.

Ask about the exact premium name

A registry-premium name can have a higher renewal price too. Ask for the renewal quote for that exact name, not the standard extension rate. An existing owner's resale asking price is a different kind of cost; check transfer and renewal charges separately.

Keep the comparison like for like

Use the same three-year period and currency, include mandatory charges, and check the VAT basis. Enter optional email or hosting only when you actually need it. The lowest completed estimate here is not a service-quality recommendation.

An available name is
not a cleared brand.

Domain availability, existing business names and trade marks are separate checks. Search the name and similar spellings before committing. A search result alone is not legal clearance; seek professional advice if a close match concerns you.

See Companies House guidance on names.

Before you settle on one

Does this tool tell me which name is available?

No. It checks basic formatting and helps you organise ideas, quotes and your own checks. Search the exact name at a registrar before buying. A name's status or price can change.

Why does a blank renewal quote leave the total unfinished?

With one or two years covered upfront, you still need renewal charges to estimate three years. Treating a missing quote as £0 would make an incomplete offer look cheaper. A three-year upfront quote needs no further domain renewal within this comparison period.

Should I buy the hyphenated name as well?

Only if you have a practical reason and can afford its separate renewals. First test whether people can say and type your main choice reliably. This guide does not check other people's rights or recommend buying every variation.

Can I keep this shortlist for later?
